Patient Update: COVID-19

Updated: 01/04/20

Due to COVID-19, Callan Dental will be offering an “emergency advice only” service. This consists of giving advice, and/or prescription for antibiotics and pain relief where appropriate. This service will be offered via email and telephone only.

This decision was made in light of the latest advice from the HSE, the Dental Council, and the World Health Organisation, which states that to control the spread of COVID-19, dentists must prevent the creation of aerosols. Aerosols are created by use of dental handpieces (commonly known as drills) and scalers for cleanings. We cannot see any patients because of this, due to the lack of specialised PPE available to do so safely.

The following situations are deemed to be dental emergencies:

•Uncontrolled bleeding;
•Severe infection/swelling;
•Severe pain not responding to local measures and pain relief; and
•Severe physical trauma to the mouth/teeth.

If you have a dental emergency, we kindly ask that you contact us via email initially at smile@callandental.ie, giving your name, phone number and details of the issue you’re having. Someone will be in touch with you within 24 hours (email only checked Mon to Fri 9am-12pm).
Please note – if you have a severe dental emergency outside these hours, or have severe swelling impeding breathing or swallowing, then you require urgent care and must go to your local emergency department.

Thank you for your understanding in helping us to keep you, our staff, and the wider community safe at this time. We hope to be back to normal service in due course.

Stay safe,
The Team at Callan Dental
